Do the chairs have holes in the back? I saw an article in one of the wedding magazines where someone gave pashminas as favours, so tied them to the backs of the seats.
Maybe you oculd do something with pieces of fabric, though not sure exactly what, or how about getting the kids to make paper carnations out of serviettes?

I did it for my aunt's wedding about a hundred year's ago, so they must be dead easy to make. :)

That looks lovely! No holes sadly. They are like the ones in this pic but much chunkier legs and higher backs with no hole. As the backs are sort of rounded, you cannot tie anything on them as it kist slides off the top. Stupid chairs. The hyall had beautiful retro old wooden stacking chairs but sold them to get these monsters! I am gutted. The shape of them is so stupid you can't even just tie something round the top.

I think with all the other fabulous decorations people won't notice the chairs. The only thing I would do however is actually sit on one at one of your tables and eat something, I have been to a couple of 'dos' where the height of the chair/table makes eating impossible!

We hired chairs from a marquee company and they weren't cheap, I think we had them for £2.50/£3 each and that was at mates rates. If you are really unhappy with the chairs maybe this is an option? How many would you need? Lots of village halls hire out their chairs, if you could find one that still uses wooden chairs and could get someone to collect them and drop them off again that would be a much cheaper option.

Our local village hall had some of the plastic chairs as in your picture until this last year when they changed them for some awful old grotty conference chairs thrown out from the local hotel, quite frankly the plastic ones looked better, were more comfortable, were easier to keep clean and lighter to move about! But there you go.

I'd love to hire some but if I do then I have to store the ugly ones somewhere. Maybe I will just try and forget they exist. I can always panic about them later. xxx

Had a crazy thought... how about buying some cheap jumpers from a car boot / charity shop and putting them over the backs of the chairs??! You could tie the arms together, it would look quite quirky.

    Like I said - crazy  :D

Ohh that is a good idea! You could even throw them in a cool wash with some dye to jazz them up if they were a bit dull...

I love you two but you are both totally mad. Even my brain that usually thinks mad things hadn't thought of that. Seriously considering it though :)

We must be able to think of a game or something with the jumpers.

Actually, I was going to suggest something similar with t shirts.

Might help with the seating plan? Or, each guest could write a message?

oooh I like the T shirt idea. If I got a bulk load of plain cheap ones and some fabric pens then encourage people to write on each others shirts :)

Ooh I like it! Far better than jumpers. I'm glad my daft idea is actually leading to something useful! :D

Well done BDUK-ers, It would be so original and unforgettable. Pillowcases may work too, you could do sack races!

I was going to say cushions, but that just sounds boring now!

Even if you leave them, I have literally never heard anyone say "the wedding was lovely, but the chairs at the reception were just hideous; ruined the whole thing!" :)

160 for me today. Still feels a long way off, but it's definitely going by fairly quickly. We're going to have a glut of long standing member wedding photos in the next few months.... woop!
