I've found the perfect band for our reception - yay! We've seen them a couple of times, and went to another gig last night. They were just great, so I can't wait to have them at our wedding

For anyone who is interested, it's The Jazz Prescription and they are based around Manchester. We went for the 5 piece band (vocals, piano, sax, bass & drums).

As our reception will have a vague 1930s theme, it should fit in really well! We're thinking about having casino tables and a cocktail bar too, but no definite plans as of yet. The band will do two 45 minute sets and we'll have a DJ for afterwards.

    So pleased!

How awesome is that?????!!!!!!! Brilliant, am off to nose their website now. I love 1930's social history, if you want any 1930's US prohibition documents and posters to add some amusement then I have a disc of the New Jersey State Police museum archives relating to the Lindberg case and amongst the docs are all sorts of newspaper adverts etc.

Don't tempt me!! I'd love it, but I think my Mum would enjoy the excuse to dress up as a gangster's moll it too much!! My parents both did a lot of amateur dramatics, and Mum had several roles in shows which required a certain level of tartiness - Adelaide in Guys & Dolls, Erma in Anything Goes... the list goes on!

She is fabulous, but might scare other guests

brilliant to have a jazz band!

you wouldn't have to do gangsters, though (although i once went to a birthday party themed like that and the photos look fab!)
you could do 20s and 30s as your theme....

ooo they sound good.. I wanted jazz/swing .. but couldn't get anyone in my budget.

So opted for a local indie band instead who sound awesome and play a range of different new and old indie/rock ... no DJ as I'm happy for the evening to be over about 11pm, and for people to have coffees and chats and give me the opportunity to say goodbye and thank people for coming :)

    So jealous!
I would have loved for a local Beatles tribute band to play at our wedding, but my ex beat me to it and booked them for his wedding last year.
The band did it for him as a favour but they kept telling everyone on our table how they thought weddings were a bit beneath them. Bloody cheek!
