hi Charlie... congrats to you and your other half!! Bet you are all extcited!!

I started with the venue and the rest followed... we thought about which month we wanted but was flexible with the date. We knew we wanted a civil ceremony all in one place so that bit was easy. We then went to view the place and sorted a date of when they had available and off we went with the rest of it!!

There are different rules for different places you get married but loads of websites that tell you what to do and the venue will help. There is also stuff on here to help too.

Enjoy these early stages, i found them the most exciting and least stressful (sorry ladies.. it does get stressful!) Plus you have all the joy at showing off your ring and telling family and friends

Keep us posted with your plans

    Hi Charlie

Congratulations! and Welcome - this place is great for helping and advice, venting, stress relief and general chit chat! We started with a month, then thought about venues and went looking - found what we wanted and checked that both it and the registrar were free and booked up. Then thought about all the other bits. We are getting married 1st July next year and are very organised (well I am) so check out my planning in pics thread and it might give you some ideas (as will everyone elses).

Congrats on becoming engaged and welcome to the weird, wonderful and downright whacky world of planning a wedding! Prepare for more choice than you can imagine, a new-found lust for shoes and dresses and more ideas than you ever thought were possible. Each step of the way Big Day will be full of other brides to encourage, inspire and have a good old gosip with. Glad you found us and an excited "yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay we have another bride to witter with" from me :)

Congratulations! I bet you're super excited! Enjoy the first bit of being engaged, soon the questions will start! :)

We're looking at 2012 too and have decided on September. We looked around loads of venues online and decided on our favourite, which we went to look at and loved. We've now budgeted and have started saving (and actually have money in the account - hooray!). Because we're having a civil ceremony and can't book the registrar more than 2 years in advance, we're just taking it easy at the moment, but come September it'll be all go!!

Enjoy it and make sure you get what both of you want, its about you two and nobody else xxx

    Hi Charlie.
    Congratulations on your engagement!! :)

I think its very stressful when you first start planning as there is sooo much you need to think and consider.
We started with the year then thought about either getting married over here or abroad. This took some deciding as we had to think about who we wanted there and who would be able to get where we wanted. We decided on staying over her so next thing was to choose a venue. You might already know if you want a church wedding or Civil Ceremony so hopefully this will be easier for you.

I love wedding planning and will probably have withdrawl symptoms once your married as im sure many of on here will as it becomes your life from the start!! haha.
You might think 2012 is ages away but we've got a year and a day left and it has come around quick.

I could go on and on as im soo happy and excited that we are getting married but il stop here for now!!

    Keep us posted!!

Hello Charlie! Congratulations on your recent engagement - I LOVE the fact you are already on a wedding forum! - and welcome to this lovely site! I know its been said before me but everyone is so lovely and friendly and great for a bit of light chit chat and good old stress relief - the girls on here have really made me feel sane after I thought I was going slightly mad!!

As above, first choose which season of the year you would like to get married - are there any times of year that mean a lot to you which would be lovely for you to get married at that time? Perhaps on the day you got together/got engaged etc. The summer months are the most expensive to get married in for obvious reasons so you might want to consider avoiding these or getting married on a weekday as this can make it a lot cheaper for you. A few people have mentioned September - this is a lovely month to get married in - less hot and normally our best weather. We were very restricted with when we could get married as we are both teachers so this helped us to choose. We are October this year!!

Next decide whether you want a church or civil ceremony. If having a civil ceremony then you should consider venues that are licensed to hold ceremonies so everything is in the same place - this makes it a lot easier. Start researching venues you like and make a list of favourites and visit them all. Often venues will give you this years prices for their packages if you book now - they are likely to inflate by 2012 - so its worth considering getting it sorted out soon. Popular venues will also get booked up fast - especially in the summer.

After that things will start to fall into place and you have plenty of time to choose what you like, what colours to go for, what theme etc. Once you start reading threads on here and getting wedding mags and going on wedding forums you will quickly decide what you like and things fall into place. I knew my weddin was going to be pink from the start so this made it easy when looking at BMs dresses, invites etc! Take your time doing your research into photographers, flowers etc.

I would hold off going dress shopping if you can until middle of next year - depending on what month you choose - as there are SOOOOOOOO many lovely dresses and there be new collections coming in the sutumn and next spring and you don't want to choose early and then see all the new ones and regret you decision!! No harm in having a look though!! My top tip for dresses is try lots of different styles on and a good dress shop will be able to pick dresses out for you that suit your shape/colouring. You don't know what suits you until you try. Take lots of pics as well so you can remember what you looked like in each dress as it gets very confusing!!

Good luck with everything and welcome again. So glad theres another bride to share our madness!! xxx
