Hi girls. Just wondering whether anyone is creative and could help with some ideas or tell me whether this will work?

Got around to talking about table numbers etc at the weekend with my mum and throwing some ideas around. Me and my H2B met whilst doing our PGCE Primary teaching qualification and grew really close discussing lesson plans, favourite subjects etc until it became clear we had really fallen for each other during our 2nd placement which were miles apart and we couldn't meet to give each other support. We have been inseparable ever since! Anyway, we thought it might be nice to have a link to teaching at the reception as its how we met and fell in love and we both absolutely love our jobs. Of course, a lot of our guests will also be fellow teachers and people we met whilst doing our course - in fact the majority of guests are probably teachers!

Not sure how this would work. My colour scheme is pink so I'm not sure if anything would tie in. We were thinking of naming the tables after subjects or certain aspects of subjects ie, I am a history specialist and he is a geography specialist so perhaps maps, etc. Do we keep it to just the table numbers or will this seem a bit random and should we try and link it to other aspects of the day? Maybe favours? I don't know what or how!?! Also, if we named the tables after subjects, would guests question why they were sat at certain tables?

Sorry for the waffling, just can't decide whether this is worth it and whether it will get too complicated? Any ideas/thoughts are much appreciated!

I think the idea of having subjects, or something school related would be a really funny idea - especially if there are lots of teachers there. If people can take a joke, why not go for things like "teachers pets" etc. I bet people here could come up with some good names.

We went to a halloween related wedding (happened to be on that day), so the table names were all something spooky and it added to the fun.

Hi, What a lovely story! One to tell the kids and grandkids ;-)

I think people may question it if you were to have subject names, e.g. English, Maths, History etc. as they may wonder if it's something you think they're good at. If you have like you said, maps etc, that should be ok. Forgive my ignorance, but are there any apparatus used within your specialists that you could use as table names? or is that what you meant?

We are both really big Formula 1 fans so are thinking of having track names for the table names (we got engaged on holiday in Monaco - not at the Grand Prix - so that would be the name of the top table!), or the name of different corners (ours would be Casino as he proposed in the gardens outisde of it) or different teams. We won't be having any other F1 reference anywhere else, I think table names can be a quirky part of your personality, hobbies, profession etc but don't have to be part of your theme (which in our case is roses!). That's just my opinion of course!

I hope you have fun coming up with the names, whatever you choose. x

Thanks for the replies. Wasn't sure if just having table names was a bit random, but as you say, I thought it could be our chance to have a bit of fun and thought it would be quite sweet to relate it to how we met. I think subjects probably wouldn't work so I'll have a think about more orginal, quirky names such as 'teachers pets'. Thanks for the suggestion - I can think about a few people to put on that table!!

Loving the F1 theme. I enjoy watching it but my dad and sister are huge fans. Bet she'd love to do that whenever she gets married!

    Hi

We are naming our tables after parts of the garden, it does relate to our theme though. We are a bit worried about the vegetable patch bit so thought we would use that for our name so not to offend anyone! We decided against the compost bin too!!

I think its a lovely story and someone could add a bit in the speeches to say why. We havent gone too mad with our theme, like you we have a colour theme but with just odd touches of the garden theme (like the favours wrapped in raffita rather than ribbon).

Maybe you could add in some other touches too?

You could have a table setting on a chalk board and your favours could relate back to you fave sweets at school like love hearts!

I think its a lovely idea. I love MrsBrowns idea of having the table plan on a chalk board! [IMG]

We've got a love heart/retro sweet theme, so we're having them as table names....flying saucers, kola kubes etc

We are having sweet table names too! Although this has nothing to do with our theme - just something we both love! We are going to try and match names for the people on the tables, such as worthers originals for the "older" (hehe) table, because of the old adverts with the Grandfather! And Jelly Babies for the table with children on it. We might have sweets in jars for favours, but that's as far "sweetie" orientated we are going.
So I don't think it's odd at all going for just the table names... I think the idea of "teachers pet" etc could be really good! But not sure how many of this type of thing you could come up with and how many tables you have...?

    Flo xx

Hmm, got my H2B onto this last night and he surprised me by really liking the idea! He's normally a bit blaze about all the planning but he was quite enthusiastic - for him!! Liking the idea of having our table plan on a chalk board - although I won't write names on with chalk - imagine the nightmare of it getting rubbed off! Might try and find some teacher-like stationary to mount on top. Sign with class of ???? also sounds like a fun idea!

Not sure how many tables we are having yet although its not huge so hopefully we can get enough ideas. We like 'teachers pets', 'dunces' (we are putting our colleagues on here'! and 'top of the class' for the top table. need to get my thinking cap on. Also like the idea of retro sweets as favours - they would go down a treat!!

You can get some special pens that look like chalk but dont rub off, they use them for writing menus on black boards in pubs etc. I think you can get them from craft shops.

All your ideas sound awesome. My mum is a teacher and it sounds really fun. Me and my OH are huuuuuuuge doctor who fans and we discovered that when we got together so ours is Dr Who. The top table, of course, being the tardis, then the doctor, our fav assistant (rose) cap jack, the master and a couple of well known enemies. A few people have called us geeks but we dont care, its personal to what we like and a lot of people in our families like it too so it could be a good conversation starter. xx [IMG]

    My link

Hi, I found these cute blackboard heart shaped name cards, I really liked them and am going to get them for my wedding breakfast. We thought people can then take them away as souvenirs. Don't know if they'll help you....?
    P.S. Hope the link works!

Glad you like them. I didn't think they were too pricey either. I'll have a bit more of a think for any more ideas. xx

Aw, thanks for looking for things for me!! Those heart blackboard clips are fab and really reasonalbe. Prob need 60 max, so 10 packs works out at £30 - not too shabby!! Quite like the confetti too, could mix that in with some pink confetti to match our colour scheme. Thanks again! xxx

I have an update! We are going to scrap our orginal favour idea - iced cookies - and more than likely going to have those little heart blackboards to double up as favours/placenames. We are then having a tuck shop!! Always wanted a sweet table but couldn't afford it, but with money from the favours we can manage it. MIL2B has a macro card and she has offered to buy all the sweets next time we visit - can't wait to pick them, what a fun job! Just need to find some nice, reasonable priced jars and scoops now to put them in. Going to have a blackboard with Tuck shop - please help yourself on - will go down a treat, especially as we have 8 children coming!! Going to look for old school paper bags to put the sweets in and get some personalised ribbon for people to tie them up. Yay, so excited!!
