I'd really like to do something unusual for our reception but I'm not sure what!

My family and friends would really enjoy something just a bit different but I'm stuck for ideas.

    Any suggestions?!

It depends - what have you got planned so far? One way would be to incorporate a theme... another way might be to have some unusual entertainment... but both depend on your venue etc. You could have a magician for grown ups, some dancers, a barn dance/ceilidh, etc [IMG]

hi we are having a vegas theme!
we are hoping to have a casino and then a 'rat pack' styled singer!
we are hoping to decorate the room with lots of feathers and sparkle and are inviting guest to wear black tie and cocktail dresses to make it more sophisticated and to fit in with the theme!
    i cant wait!
    xx

That sounds like a great idea! My friend had a wedding reception in a Casino (after getting married in New Zealand) and had gambling tables and rat pack - it was so much fun!

We don't have a venue yet lol, we are probably having a marquee or I'll be sweeping out a barn so can do pretty much anything.....

A Vegas theme sounds fantastic! I'd love to see the pictures! My friend got married recently in The Dome cinema in Worthing and had an old movie theme. The tables were named Breakfast at Tiffanys, Gone with the Wind etc. The place cards were held in mini clapper boards, the music was film tunes. It was a fantastic day! x

ooh, see if you had it in a barn you could have a barn dance!

or you could go to the zoo - a few zoos hire out parts of it for receptions.

    or a fairground

you've got to have a bouncy castle (not just for the kids - get one big enough for the adults- it goes down a storm!)

We are doing an Enid Blyton style high tea and have an old fashioned game on each table to keep people amused - so far I got some games from House of Marbles and Old Maiden cards but am looking for others. I am hoping to do a coconut shy, a lovely lady on another site was having a village fete theme and I got the idea from her.

All I need now a tiddlers in jars and the ginger beer! I'm collecting Enid Blyton books and placing them stacked in the centre of the tables as well as using some for the invites. An idea from another bride was to customise the books and turn them into the invites. I have done a few and they look awesome so will have to take some pics.

The reasoning behind the idea was originally budget and that I could do a lot of it myself but it turned from a nice idea and excuse to have one of those cheese cakes and home-made pickles to a whole theme. The Enid Blyton bit is that everyone attending mut have at some point read an Enid Blyton book so it's nostalgic but also a talking point that gives people something in common. We had so much fun trying to remember the names of the kids in The xxxxx of Adventure and The Mystery of xxxxx series so we hope our guests have fun too, hence the books.

I went to a friends wedding and she entered the hall to 'March of the Darleks' and the reception was all blue phone boxe and darleks on tables! It was really good fun and the room was decorated with long scarves and bits that reminded people of all the Dr Who's over the years. Now that was eccentric!
