It occurred to me that I haven't done a planning thread yet!! Given that I love reading everyone elses, I thought it was high time I did my own :D

Ian and I have been together for nearly 8 years now, and we got engaged in Paris in August 2009 (for the full story see the Engagement Stories thread!). I love Paris - the architecture, style and feel of the place is just amazing. I particularly love the Art Nouveau and Art Deco features you see everywhere - the Metro is a prime example:

This really inspired the rest of the wedding, and so when I went dress shopping I had thoughts of 1930s glamour in my head, and low and behold I discovered the beautiful Francesca by Jenny Packham

    And accessories:

I knew from an early point that I didn't want a wedding that looked too 'girly', and so as Ian's favourite colour combination is silver and blue I decided to go for that. I found these bridesmaid dresses (which actually look either dark purple or bright blue depending on the light!)

My maids are all having different accessories, and these are the shoes that have been bought so far

I'm still not sure what to have for my shoes, but I quite like these:

    Scarlet.jpg

or maybe these if I'm feeling daring!!

    Charlize.jpg

We are getting married at Sandhole Oak Barn near Congleton - it's a gorgeous modern barn next to a lake. Here are some photos taken by our photographer:

Flowers will be a mix of blues, purples and mauves - my bouquet will be dark and the BMs will be a lighter mix with creams. Table centres will be a mix of candelabras and low arrangements in blues and purples.

We will be having a jazz band in the evening and casino tables (roulette and blackjack) B)

Things I've still got to sort out:

    • Favours - I'm thinking maybe Macarons Parisienne
    • Guestbook - I'd like a polaroid camera and 1930s theme props (trilby hats, feather boas, moustaches etc) so that people can take pictures of themselves and stick them in the book with a message
    • Cake! We're thinking of having Krispy Kreme donuts instead though!!
    • HAIR!! I have no idea what to do. I've got shoulder length hair and a fringe - 1930s waves would be great, but what to do with my fringe?! I've got a high forehead so it's got to be there... maybe a bob would look best. Agh!!
    • Ian's suit - he's not going to wear a 'wedding' style suit, he looks far better in something more slimline. I've got a David Beckham-esque three-piece suit in mind!
    • 101 other things that I've no thought about yet!!

There you go! I'll add to it as I get things done. If I don't, please shout at me as it probably means I haven't done them yet!!

Hooray! Becky's planning thread is here at last!

Well jealous of your theme! I sometimes think that if I had got engaged a year later it would be something more along these lines. But hey-ho, I'm going to make mine as good as I can!!

LOVE the headpiece - I wanted something like that but nothing like that would EVER go with my dress.

I started looking into the polaroid camera thing - have you seen how much film costs?!?! KerAzee...

What jazz band are you having??

I just want to say I love it all!! I love vintage, 1930's style! I originally wanted a similar theme but I had to face facts and admit that I don't suit slinky dresses! oh well! just wanted to say it all looks and sounds brilliant!

    :D

Sandhole Oak Barn is gorgeous. I know someone else getting married there this year :D I was chatting to a lady at work the other day, she was buying stuff for one daughters wedding (at Mottram Hall) and we got talking, apparently her other daughter got married at Sandhole too. She said it was beautiful and they had such a lovely day

My vote goes with the second shoe option, they're gorgeous! Although I do like both.

Your theme all sounds fantastic, love it

Thanks girls, I'm really pleased you like it!

Eek I see what you mean!! Might have to re-think that if we can't find it cheap (I'll get Ian on the case, he's extremely good at hunting down bargains)

We are having a 5-piece band called the Jazz Prescription - we've heard them a few times at the Cinnamon Club and at Dimitris and really like them. Jeremy Sasson (the lead guy) is also playing piano during the ceremony - I'm having the Andantino Moderato from Rhapsody in Blue as I walk down the aisle

I'm so pleased to hear that! It has good reviews, but I've never actually spoken to anyone who has been to a wedding there. Can't wait!

I love your theme :D (I have quite a bit of my house in art deco style) Sadly I really don't have the figure for the 20s or 30s dress styles so I didn't choose it for our wedding otherwise it would have been a definate contender!

I like both shoes, I think the second pair would look fab with your dress and headpiece  The barn is gorgeous too

:D I have the Charlize shoes on my amazon wishlist. (I can't imagine why I didn't get them for Christmas?)

I adore your dress, and I'd love to see pics of the candlabras.
You are very brave posting this here!

Wow Becky it all looks great, I had forgotten just how stunning your dress is!

For a cheaper alternative to a polaroid camera, you could try the polaroid Pogo printer (about £15 off amazon) and the paper is fairly cheap to, you just plug in a normal digital camera and it prints you smallish pictures on sticky back paper so you can still stick them in the guest book!

That was the cheapest way I found to do the whole polaroid thing as I nearly choked when I saw the price of the film!\\

Hope that helps you guys. ;)

Becky - Just a quick question, would it be possible to remove my planning thread - as hopefully it won't be too long before I get to start a new one and would prefer not to have that reminder!
    Thanks Amy x

Exciting news - I've just come across a blog entry about someone's wedding, and the bride is wearing the same dress as mine!! :) I haven't seen any pictures of it on a 'real bride' before, so I was really pleased to see it!

    Linky link

Separately, I had a meeting with a hairdresser this evening to discuss styles for me and my bridesmaids. All went really well and he had some really useful advice and ideas, so I've got my trial booked for next week!
