Sadly many dress shops seem to be all about the price tag and false comments that irk me greatly. I found locally that I could tell from the window if a shop would suit me. The bigger posher looking ones I felt embarrassed in and out of place but the ones with quirky coloured dresses and inspiring window displays were friendly and more genuine about really caring about my wedding.
I was a bad girl. I went into one of the posh ones one day after the school run, looked like a wreck - no make-up, old trainers, jeans and dinosaur knickers on (it still kills me to this day that I did this), and an old bra. I tried on dresses to the horror of the shop woman who had to help me into them and found my perfect dress. As the woman had been so rude to me to start with (I looked like I wouldn't be spending a lot I guess), I was not prepared to buy it from her. She'd only been nice to me after hearing me tell the other assistant my wedding venue was at somewhere locally considered to be very posh. I wrote down the design of the dress and surfed ebay, got it from a lovely lady for £150 instead of over £1000. Bargain
Silly thing is, if she had been nice to me instead of making me feel fat, frumpy and so out of place, i'd have happily ordered it from them and paid in installments. Her lesson should be not to judge a book by it's cover It's not like I was dirty or smelly, I had just done the school run! Well ok, the dinosaur knickers and old bra might be something you'd better avoid when going to a dress shop!
