I have been studying pics of these in detail as to how they are made. It seems to be rather easier than expected. I am going to try the following:

Cutting craft wire (strong enough stuff to stay straight) into equal lengths.
Threading buttons and beads onto them ensuring they are in the middle by bending it then twisting down to make a 'stem' with the buttons at the end.
Gathering them all together in whatever order I want.
Twisting the stems all together if necessary to keep the shape.
Trimming off the ends of the wire to make it all tidy.
Binding the stems all together and covering the wires completely with some kind of plastic before winding ribbon round the lot and decorating with a diamante buckle.

Am I mad or not? To buy the one I love is £200. I estimate the materials for this will cost about £50 max if I am savvy but at least it'll be kept forever.

Pics that inspired me attached along with pics of some jewellery bits I already bought to get me started.

That sounds like a really good idea to me, especially if it saves you £150! I can't believe the price of the one you've seen, that's crazy.

Are you planning a teardrop bouquet or a round one?

I agree it would be a gorgeous keepsake - even more so knowing you sourced all the materials and made it yourself :)

I quite like the round ones but I am a very round person so maybe a teardrop one would be better or one that resembles a normal bouquet but not teardrop or something else. I suspect it will be whatever shape it ends up being. Sooo... anyone with any spare buttons, brooches, old necklaces etc then think of me..

Good work! So did she have all the buttons and brooches that you needed?? If so, that is one excellent stash!

She is amazing! I have buttons and more buttons but also found a load of vintage inspired brooches and pearl bracelets in Peacocks that I can merrily chop up. I just need the wire now and then time to experiment! This could just be the most stupid thing I have ever embarked on :)

I saw some pics of a friends sisters weddings few months back and she had a button bouquet and the men had button holes too. It looked ace. The bridesmaids had mini ones too.

I think it's a brill idea to keep forever and can't wait to see how it turns out. Is Ben getting a button hole?

Not sure. Ben is not, at this point, even wearing anything. Well, not nothing but not anything sorted out. I suspect strongly it'll end up being larp gear in some form. I was hoping he'd surprise me and do something all flash and exciting but I have more chance of him coming dressed as Buzz Lightyear than in a posh suit. I am choosing to ignore the issue completely as it's irrelevant. What does it matter if I spend years making sure things are all quirky and cute and vaguely in some way connected and he just wears a jacket and shirt from the wardrobe? Deep breath. It'll be fine, I am not marrying him for his suit or lack of it. I guess this is true. I wouldn't want him to be uncomfy but to care just a little what he wears would be nice.

I love love love the last picture!

I would have tried this myself but I showed husband lots of pictures and he hated them so in the end (after lots of failed attempts at trying to get him to come round to them) I had to change my plans.

Have to say I'm still pretty tempted to make one even now hahaha!

Can't wait to see how you get on! :D

I've always liked the idea of these, there's a few on etsy. There was a nice fabric ones as well (as in stylistic, not realistic) made out of tweed and lace that I was very taken with, and very nearly got, but it was a) quite expensive and b ) my package in America included bouquets/buttonholes/corsages the lot so it would have been a completely unnecessary added expense. Clearly you lot are a lot more crafty than me, and I'm sure you'll make an amazing bouquet at a fraction of the price you can buy them for. Any progress pics? :D
