Had confirmation of the price for the Martina Liana dress from the stockist in Bristol..just as my last glimmer of hope, but it's a staggering £1499...nearly 3 times my budget! :-( Gutted, not been a good day for me so far today!

maybe you should be looking to get it next year. it might be cheaper plus you still have a long time to go until your wedding so might change your mind on the dress. Agree with Becky you should try lots of different styles of dress on.

Well having looked online the Martina Liana ranges don't drop below £1,000 anyway, so it may just be a case of grin and bear it an know I will never have that dress.I do note that the rouched dresses do bigger brides justice, I'm not in the "big" bracket anymore but I do have quite curvy hips which put me off of fishtail dresses, they'd make my backside look huge!

MrsStobe813 - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE go out and TRY on LOTS of different dresses and styles. I had my mind set on a completely different dress to the one I ended up falling in love with. In fact, I thought the woman in the shop was joking when she showed it to me as it was nothing like the specifications i had given to her. To be honest, the ones I had been trying on (which I thought were my dream dresses) looked hideous on me. I'm a size 14, flat chested and 5 ft 1. What looks good on the models may not suit your shape and colouring.

I personally wouldn't get a dress where I'm not sure if the quality of material and tailoring. Are there any dressmakers near you that may be able to make you a dress without a 'designer' label on it - then it would be unique to you.

Zoe, as it so happens my Gran is a seamstress, but I feel terrible about asking her to make my entire wedding dress..especially as I don't know what I want!

I've not really heard good things about light in the box, though I did consider another seamstress company in china who seem to do spectacular work that other brides on other forums have used and been very very happy with - can't remember their name right now, Shellys or Shelby's or something.
I was supposed to be doing using them (got prices etc) until I went trying on dresses to make sure I was sure about what I wanted, found a dress, fell in love and spent 1/4 of my wedding budget on it ...

there are mixed reviews from what i can see, luck of the draw i suppose. i agree that you need to go and try different style on first to see what suits you x

March? Lol. Wait until nearer the time and use it productively to try on lots of styles. If you really want it then deposit and pay it off over time or risk the China option and the cash. Sorry our advice may not be what you want to hear but considering how fragile you have been and the tough time you've had recently, I think waiting would be wise and you can fill your time trying on others :-)

I would never order off Light in The box. My fiances cousin is getting married this saturday the 17th sept. She seen her dream dress and was like you far to expensive and on a budget, so her Mam said try Light in the box. She was over the moon when she found a dress very similar for about £250. She ordered it then an d there and it was delivered within 4 weeks. She is a size 22 and when she opened the dress it was pink rather than ivory. The stitching on the dress was bright red and also very badly done. When she emailed the company to ask for a refund they were going to charge her £150 to send the dress back and a further £250 for a new dress. In total this would have cost her £650 the original dress she wanted was £900. She was probably better off saving the extra money to buy the dress from the bridal shop.

But honest you have plenty of time to pick your dress and lots of new collections will be coming out.

i had a dress in mind that i wanted and when i tried it on i looked like a big fat frump. Now my dress is a Roanld Joyce Connie and it is something that i would have went for but does me the world of good for making me look nice and slim. xx

I'm not surprised though, they do seem to be totally hit and miss depending on who over there is in charge of the order. Just looked up your dress because i'm a nose bag, it's gorgeous! Is it this one?

That's terrible!! Did she end up getting a replacement from there, or did she go elsewhere in the end?

Not sure if it helps, but here's a link about your rights if you're buying abroad.

P.S. I just looked up your dress and it's really pretty - lovely choice :D

Yes that is my dress. It is a bit sprakly on the eye but its is a really gorgeous dress.

She never sent the dress back and got her Mams friend to pick it to pieces and they have made a really nice dress out of it. not what she wanted but they didnt have enough time to get a replacement and altered. She was very upset but there is nothing you can do if you have been wiling to take the risk in the first place. x
