Venue is usually the first thing to look in to - once you get a feel for prices of the ones you like you can decide whether it's next year or the year after. When you set a date you can start the rest of the planning around that!
The dress hunt is so much fun, so definitely worth getting ideas as soon as you want. Don't be surprised if what you think you will like turns out to be something completely different when you try things on though!!

Have decided on April 27th 2013, as long as the church is available and whichever venue we choose.
Had a big fight with my mum this morning though, as I want it in marlow, my dads family are from there, and she's annoyed that I'm not doing it where her family are from I guess. She said I need to realise she has a family too, cried my eyes out to my dad who's trying to sort it.
I just don't know where this has come from, before we got engaged she was so excited at the prospect but now she's down on everything I say about it
just wasn't expecting this from her
Xx

What it is with mums and weddings?! For some reason when their daughter is getting married it turns them into a bit of a monster!!
I really feel for you - the best thing you can do is keep your cool and explain things reasonably to her, and hope that she comes round. Big hugs xxx

i agree Becky, they should sedate mothers in the run up to their daughters wedding, the only stress i am having is from my mother about the wedding.

Congratulations Kim on your engagement!
Do try to keep your spirits up and try not to worry too much about what others think. My dad was not happy at all that we didn't want our wedding at his house but when I came down to it he actually enjoyed what we did instead - stick to your guns, it is your wedding and you should do what makes you as a couple happy
