Re the hen do, it might be worth saying to your maid of honour that the priorities for you are that the cost is low and as many people can make it as possible. She might be trying to organise something really wonderful for you, which is a lovely sentiment, but if it means it's too costly and people you want there can't make it then it's definitely worth having a word sooner rather than later.

This is from bayliy.co.uk I have not heard of them before but dress came up on google search. It is £134.62 (and I am assuming one of the many many online Chinese companies).

I would think that there may well be some brown options popping up on the high street for Autumn/Winter so keep an eye out there :)

Thanks all for the warm welcome back!

Helen - that dress is stunning, kind of wishing I had the money to buy it for myself! :D 7
I am hoping I something pops up on the high street this autumn. Shame my bridesmaids are all short (not in a bad way!) - will still have to get them fitted!
If anyone spots a good one let me know - I am useless at browsing for stuff, I end up with a list of things I want for myself instead of what I was actually looking for!

Thanks for the advice re hen do - I had a quick word with one of the girls organising it, and asked for some specifics and flexibility, they won't change it, but now I know when/where its a bit more relaxing. However still going to say something about the timing of it, once I know for definite who can and who can't make it, then I can suggest we do something next year, so that they can make it too. At this rate I'll end up with 3 hen dos, as I have already been persuaded into letting work friends organise one next summer!

I am back from the 8 hour round trip to Devon for my early Hen Party. Despite being nervous about it being a year before it should be (ish) it was lovely and so nice. Plus was set up as a trail run to see if they could plan well together and a "1 year to go party"

I will share more once I have seen photos, but it includes a lot of cake and bunting!

Right - Photo time.... plus I apologise now for the length of this post!!!!

So - as some of you may already know - I was very nervous about having a hen party organised for me with a year to go before the big day! But never the less I am not normally known to stop people doing something they want to do.

I was kept in the dark until a couple of months ago when my bridesmaids found out the H2B would not drive me back for the weekend - so they told me the date "1st October", where "Mums house", time "4pm". But that was it... Other than knowing one of the girls from work was travelling down with me and that many people couldn't make it.

So I headed down to Plymouth (trying to forget how long the journey is and how tired it makes me) - aiming to be there by 3pm - giving me a chance to get changed and freshen up! (Must admit the journey was so much fun singing along to all my cheesey music!) Only to be given a shopping list and told to go out and run some errands. Plus an extra instruction to call when I wanted to come home just in case no one was in. This did not help settle my nerves about what they had planned at all!

Never the less I called before I came home only to be told to wait another 15 mins. So I headed back and was greeted at the door by 3 of my friends from school all dressed up for tea!

After being allowed to change and make myself feel human (in a matter of minutes) I was ushered into the dining room - which was full of cakes and donned in bunting and heart decorations.

One of my bridesmaids had gone to the trouble of making me some bunting - including personal messages from all the girls invited. Also to make up for so many of the girls not being able to make it - popsicle sticks with their names and photos had been created to make me feel like they were there!

Attached Image: 317410_10150835554365251_898970250_20832839_998838165_n.jpgAttached Image: 300960_10150835554730251_898970250_20832844_1975478818_n.jpg

I was so touched with the trouble my bridesmaids had gone to to make this so personal! And then came the most relaxing comment of the evening followed by the most shocking. This is our trial run for next years hand weekend extravaganza and in a minute (yes at 4pm) we will be doing tequila slammers! Very kindly they had provided me with a shot glass with a handle - just in case I forgot how to hold a small glass after a couple more drinks!

It did not take us long to tuck into the massive selection of -
lemon vodka poppy seed cake, margarita cookies, chocolate madeira cake, banana and cinnamon cupcakes, meringue sandwiches, profiteroles, woopie pies, vanilla cupcakes, smoked salmon sandwiches and crisps. Plus a large pitcher of something named by the girls as "Sex on Plymouth Hoe".

The food and drink became a true girly gossip session and chinwag! I very much enjoyed their tea party. Despite the severe lack of tea!!!

So around 9pm we decided to head out into town for some more cocktails and some fun and games with a little dare book! And that is where my story shall end!

I did have an amazing time - and it was so nice to get to see the girls again and to be back down in Devon. I am now very much looking forward to next year - and me being greedy with two hen parties - one with work and the weekend from the girls!

xx

Sounds brilliant! I feel really hungry after reading through that list of cakes and yummy things... is 9.30am too early for cake?! I love the pics too!

Glad you had a great time, and I'm pleased for you that you have another hen party to look forward to! I presume this means the others will be able to make it to the second one?

Yay, so glad you had a good time, especially after you were worrying about it. And even better, you get to do it all again with another hen do to look forward to :D

Hooray! Well done bridesmaids, I loooove the bunting, you should keep it and incorporate it in to the wedding. It's good that you can just look forward to next years hen do as well now, with no apprehension.

PS I got a notonthehighstreet.com catalogue through the other day and there was a lovely chocolate brown lace dress in it. Are you still looking. I couldn't remember who was looking for them but this thread has reminded me. I'll try and put in a link when I'm on my laptop not phone. It was quite dear though is the only thing.
