I have entered us into a wedding comp. It is to win our photos free. Considering we don't have a photographer as the budget has died thanks to the car killing itself, it would be lovely even to win third prize. I have to get 'likes' on the photo.

So, any of you with facebook accounts out there that feel like being lovely and fluffy and supernice, here is the link:

Suit Etiquette

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to bigday.com and this is my first New Topic!

Getting married in August this year and our current dilemma is suit etiquette, the problem being that Rob wants to wear a contemporary suit e.g http://www.next.co.uk/x49434s4 rather than hiring traditional wedding garb

My concern is that the suits are about £110 each and with him having two best men, two brothers as ushers, his dad, my dad and step-dad and potentially my two brothers (I'd like the blokes in my family to be in the same suits as well) this would obviously be super-expensive for us to fund! I've spoken to a couple of people who say that traditionally we should pay for the bridesmaid dresses (which we've done) and that the men pay for their own suits. Is this right? Also I'm not sure its fair to expect them to pay £110 each, would it be acceptable for us to make a contribution and if so what is the average kind of price for suit rental that someone would pay so we could pay the extra and not feel guilty!

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi Everyone!

Hi everyone,

Just joined bigday.co.uk, I'm getting married on the 23rd of August 2012 but only got engaged in November last year so less than 12 months to plan and starting to get a little panicky with how much there is left to do especially when I'm finding it so hard to make decisions!

Looking forward to getting some great ideas, hints and tips from you guys and hopefully being able to share some of my own experience

Would You Propose To Him?

So as Becky mentioned in another post this year is a leap year and that means tradition for women to do the proposing.

Did you propose to your man?

Would you or do you think that they should be the one to do it?

Thoughts please!

Who Wears What?!

So this might sound like a bit of a div question, but we're on a bit of a wedding organising binge and have got to the point of working out what the boys have to wear.

Obviously Neil and the best man are gonna be in suits of a similar ilk and in my head so are the ushers. What about the Dad's, what do they do? Does Neil's Dad wear the same as the rest of them and how about my Dad?

My thought was that if the majority of the wedding party are in morning suits (which is what Neil wants) and my Dad is in normal suit, it might look odd in photos?

Any thoughts welcome x

Tips For Wedding Dress Shopping

Does anyone here have any tips to add? I would definitely agree that it's best to keep an open mind and try on a wide variety - even if you've got a very firm idea of what you want, it's amazing how often people go for something completely different once they try some on!

Ham In Cherry Coke

I have gammon... and I have cherry coke... all that remains is to cook it! Has anyone here tried this before, and if so do you have any tips?? I'm going to follow the recipe in Feast by Nigella Lawson

Ingredients:
2.25-2.75kg boneless mild cure gammon
approx 6 cans cherry coke

For the glaze:
approx 16 whole cloves
3-4 tbsps cherry jam
1 tsp pimenton dulce or smoked paprika
half tsp red wine vinegar

Nigella's instructions:
Put the ham snugly into a large saucepan (you really need the tightest fit you can, so that you don't have to use lots of Coke to cover it later) and fill with cold water. Put the pan on the heat and bring to the boil, then drain the ham into a colander, wash the ham under the tap and rinse the saucepan before putting the ham back in. This will get rid of some of the saltiness. Or just soak overnight in cold water.

Add the cherry coke and the onion, halved, to the ham and if the liquid doesn't cover it then add some water. Put back on the heat and bring to the boil, then turn down to a simmer and partially cover the pan. Cook for approx 2-2.25 hours.

When you are ready to glaze the ham, preheat the oven to Gas Mark 8/230 degrees. Remove the ham from the liquid, reserving it for later, and sit the ham on a board. Strip off the rind and a little of the fat layer, it it's very thick, and cut a diamond pattern into the remaining fat with a knife in lines about 2cm apart. Stud each diamond with a clove.

Put the jam, pimenton/paprika and red wine vinegar into a saucepan and whisk together over a high heat, bringing it to the boil. Let the pan bubble away so that the glaze reduces to a syrupy consistency that will coat the fat on the ham.

Sit the ham in a roasting pan on a layer of foil, as the sugar in the glaze will burn in the oven as it drips off. Pour the glaze over the ham and then put it in the oven for about 15 mins, or until the glazed fat has caught and burnished. Take the ham out of the over and return it to the carving board to rest it before you carve it.
